About CCC

I am the Way, the Truth and the Life
    John 14:6

Calvary Chapel could best be described as an affiliation of churches that offer a balanced approach to church life. We believe that the church should be centered around and based completely on the word of God. Learning God's word is extremely important to Calvary Chapel churches and our plan is to study the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse until we have studied the Bible in its entirety, both Old and New Testaments. We believe it is important to know the "whole counsel of God" Acts 20:27. Our weekly studies are not topical but are instead journeys through the scriptures that begin each week where we ended the week previous.

We also believe that a healthy church is a church that is filled with the Holy Spirit. We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today's church and we desire to have an open heart and a Biblical perspective to the leading of the Holy Spirit and the exercising of these gifts. Worship is extremely important to a church and we desire to have Spirit-filled, powerful, contemporary worship that will bless the Lord and our people.

We believe that the book of Acts has the best model in which to pattern a church. Acts 2:42 says "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer". We desire to have all of these aspects, important to the early church, be the pillars of City Calvary. A church needs to be a community where people can come and be a part of something, where they can grow in their relationship with Jesus and develop solid friendships with those in the body of Christ. We look to our Lord to bring growth to our church body. It says in Acts 2:47 "And the Lord added to their numbers daily those who were being saved." He has been faithful to do this at CCC since our formation.

In addition, we take the Great Commission seriously and we desire to see the Gospel of Jesus spread throughout the Puget Sound region and to the ends of the earth. CCC has had the blessing of planting two churches in Russia (Smolensk & Ryazan) and has sent other missionaries to other locations all around the world, from Indonesia to Belfast, Northern Ireland. We also seek to reach those in the Seattle area as well.

City Calvary has a diverse congregation and it is our desire to be led by God and to offer ministries and gatherings that will bless all of our people, kids, teens and adults alike. Please look through our various ministries to see what is offered. Thanks for visiting our website and feel free to call the church office if you have any questions.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

Calvary Chapel began in the 1960's in Costa Mesa, California under the leadership of Chuck Smith. What began as a ministry to the younger generation of the 60's, mainly surfers and hippies in a small Bible study, has grown to a church of 30,000 people in Costa Mesa and worldwide affiliation of churches with over 1000 fellowships around the world.

City Calvary Chapel had its beginning in the summer of 1997. What started out as a small midweek Bible study has developed into a well-established and growing fellowship. City Calvary Chapel is a church plant of Calvary Fellowship. Calvary Fellowship, the first Calvary affiliate in the Puget Sound region, met in the heart of the City of Seattle in the Wallingford district for many years. In purchasing a building and moving to the north, in the city of Mountlake Terrace, Calvary Fellowship desired to keep a Calvary Chapel presence in the city. Hence City Calvary Chapel was birthed and had its first Sunday service on February 1st, 1998.
